Mahopac Middle School held a lively kickoff assembly for each grade last week celebrating the launch of its annual Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. The pep rallies set the tone for a year focused on school spirit, positive behavior and community building.
Students were greeted by the Mahopac Middle School cheerleaders and treated to upbeat performances from PAC Sabbath, the talented faculty jazz band made up of staff members Kyra Cain (bass), Joseph Seeley (drums), Mike Teglasi (guitar) and Jason Zides (tenor sax).
Assistant Principal Regina Cucinotta delivered remarks on the importance of PBIS in building a supportive and inclusive environment.
“When we all work together to create a culture of respect, kindness and responsibility, we ensure that every student feels safe and valued,” Cucinotta said.
As part of the celebration, students were introduced to the “HOWLS Way,” a school-wide framework that outlines expectations for behavior: Honor respect, Own your actions, Work together, Lead by example and Show kindness. Students were encouraged to embrace these principles every day to help create a respectful and collaborative school community.
The event wrapped up with the exciting introduction of Koda, the school’s wolf mascot, along with high energy performances from the cheerleaders which drew applause from the students. The assembly ended on a note of excitement and unity, with students eager to carry the HOWLS Way into their classrooms, hallways and beyond.
